Who We Are

Welcome to National Civil Society

National Civil Society (NCS) was established in 2013 with a clear and urgent purpose; to strengthen the link between governance, public welfare, and citizen engagement in India. From its registered base in Delhi, NCS has steadily evolved into a trusted and structured platform offering services that align with the country’s developmental needs and the global roadmap of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

NCS is a fully registered CSO in India, holding legal recognition under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860. Its financial and operational credibility is backed by full statutory compliance, including PAN (AADAN9572G), GST registration, and certifications under Section 80G and 12A of the Income Tax Act. NCS is also listed under the CSO Darpan portal (DL/2018/0201839) and is formally recognized for CSR contributions with CSR Registration No. CSR00024966.

The leadership of NCS consists of dedicated professionals who combine administrative experience with a commitment to community welfare. Guided by President Dr Adil Khan Kotwal and Secretary Dr. Prashan Kumar Thakur, the organization functions with transparency, accountability, and a mission-driven focus. Together, they have enabled the organization to serve both urban and rural communities with programs that are practical, scalable, and results-oriented.

Over the years, NCS has aligned its work with key development goals such as clean energy (SDG 7), sustainable urban living (SDG 11), and climate action (SDG 13). It is also recognized as an official UN SDG book publishing partner, bringing sustainability education to young learners and communities. NCS has taken its advocacy further through collaborations with national and international institutions, including its affiliation with the International Peace Youth Group (IPYG) and its invitation to the World Health Summit in Berlin.

One of the most visible initiatives of NCS is the GST Suvidha Kendra network, which brings over 100 digital, financial, and public services to local communities. These centers act as bridges between citizens and governance; offering services like PAN applications, GST returns, health insurance, AEPS (Aadhaar Enabled Payment Systems), loan facilitation, and business registrations. Through these Kendras, NCS promotes digital inclusion and financial empowerment across India.

In addition to its service infrastructure, NCS has taken major steps in disaster management by working in coordination with NDRF and state-level bodies. Its three-phase model of disaster response; preparedness, response, and recovery; has helped build community resilience in vulnerable regions. NCS also promotes urban afforestation, EV infrastructure, and clean energy adoption, making tangible contributions to India’s environmental roadmap.

Recognition from institutions such as the Ministry of Home Affairs, NDRF, UN networks, and CSR platforms demonstrates the credibility and capacity of the organization. However, the measure of its success lies in its ability to simplify complex systems for everyday citizens; whether through a doorstep insurance scheme, a training workshop on digital tools, or a community peace walk organized in partnership with global youth networks.

NCS does not aim to operate in isolation. It encourages collaboration with government bodies, educational institutions, corporates seeking CSR partnerships, and volunteers committed to public service. Each program is designed to deliver measurable results and scalable models that can be replicated across districts and states.

The organization continues to grow with clarity of mission and openness to innovation. From publishing SDG books for children to facilitating AEPS transactions in remote villages, its journey is defined by action, purpose, and integrity. National Civil Society is not only a registered CSO; it is a functioning model of how organized citizen action can support the nation’s development goals; effectively, respectfully, and sustainably.

Philosophy

The Values That Guide Every Step

The work of National Civil Society is guided by a set of strong, people-first philosophies that shape every decision, action, and service. These guiding ideas are not just statements; they are living values that influence how NCS interacts with communities, builds partnerships, and designs solutions. Each philosophy reflects a deep commitment to justice, simplicity, dignity, and sustainability. Whether serving in disaster zones, planting trees in cities, or helping citizens access their rights, NCS stays rooted in its core beliefs. These principles ensure that the work stays meaningful, transparent, and aligned with the real needs of the people. Together, they form a foundation that connects vision with action and keeps the organization moving forward with clarity and purpose.

Empower People

Change begins when people are informed and confident. NCS helps you take charge of their lives through awareness, access to services, and the power to make decisions.

Serve With Heart

Every action must come from care. NCS listens, understands, and responds with humanity, ensuring that its services are kind, respectful, and truly help those in need.

Stay Transparent

Trust grows when things are open. NCS shares its work, plans, and finances clearly so that communities, partners, and donors can believe in the honesty of its mission

Keep It Simple

Big solutions must be easy to use. NCS designs services that anyone can understand; no matter their background; so no one feels left out or confused.

Prepare, Always

Disasters can strike anytime. NCS helps people stay safe by teaching what to do, where to go, and how to stay strong before, during, and after emergencies.

Act Locally

Strong nations are built in small places. NCS supports local leaders and communities to solve problems close to home, creating real change that grows step by step.

Teach Peace

Peace begins with knowledge. NCS runs learning programs that help people understand each other, respect differences, and work together for a better future.

Use Tech Wisely

Technology should help everyone. NCS brings digital tools to villages and towns so people can access services, earn, learn, and connect with the world safely and easily.

Grow Green

The Earth needs care. NCS plants trees, protects water, and supports clean energy so that people can live better now; and leave a healthier planet for the future.

Lift Every Voice

Everyone matters. NCS listens to those often ignored, women, children, the poor and makes sure their problems are heard, rights respected, and hopes supported.

Work Together

Working alone limits change. NCS joins hands with governments, businesses, schools, and citizens to reach more people, share ideas, and solve problems faster.

Think Long-Term

Quick fixes fade. NCS focuses on strong, lasting solutions that improve lives not just today, but for children, families, and generations yet to come.

Living Our Principles Every Day

Philosophies are not meant to stay on paper; they must live in actions, attitudes, and outcomes. At National Civil Society, these 12 philosophies are reflected in every project, every community visit, and every conversation. They remind the team why they serve, how they should serve, and whom they are ultimately accountable to; the people. By staying true to these principles, NCS continues to earn trust, inspire collaboration, and deliver change that lasts. These philosophies help bridge gaps between policy and people, technology and compassion, vision and reality. They are not goals to achieve but values to uphold every day. With them, NCS builds not just services; but relationships, resilience, and a stronger, kinder future for all.

History

Our Journey: A History of Purpose and Progress

The story of National Civil Society (NCS) began in 2013, at a time when India was witnessing both remarkable growth and persistent inequality. While the country made strides in technology, infrastructure, and urban development, large sections of the population continued to struggle with limited access to health, education, legal support, and disaster preparedness. It was in response to this imbalance that a group of committed professionals, educators, and social thinkers came together to form NCS; a registered society under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860, based in Delhi.

The founding vision was simple yet urgent: to build a platform that could connect citizens to the systems meant to serve them. NCS was not created to speak for the people; but to enable the people to speak, act, and thrive for themselves. From the very beginning, the organization focused on bringing essential services; like insurance, legal aid, identity documentation, and access to digital tools; to underserved and often forgotten communities.

In its early years, NCS established community support centers and began offering assistance with public services such as voter IDs, Aadhaar updates, PAN applications, and income certificates. As the reach expanded, so did the organization’s clarity of purpose. It wasn’t just about providing access; it was about empowering individuals to understand their rights, demand accountability, and participate fully in civic life.

By 2017, NCS had become a known name in grassroots circles across multiple states. The launch of its GST Suvidha Kendra initiative was a major milestone, enabling citizens and small businesses to navigate India’s new tax system through local digital support centers. These Kendras also began offering more than 100 services, including AEPS (Aadhaar Enabled Payment System), insurance facilitation, loan assistance, and digital literacy.

As its credibility grew, NCS earned recognition from major institutions. It secured all key legal registrations including PAN, GST, 80G, 12A, and CSR certification (CSR00024966). It became a verified CSO on the CSO Darpan portal (DL/2018/0201839) and began collaborating with public agencies such as the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). NCS was officially authorized to support disaster awareness and response programs at the community level.

At the same time, the organization extended its work into the global space. It became a recognized UN SDG book publishing partner, collaborated with the International Peace Youth Group (IPYG), and was invited to participate in the World Health Summit. These engagements reflected the growing influence of NCS in matters of peace building, sustainable development, and public health awareness.

Today, National Civil Society stands as a bridge; between people and policies, between rural needs and national programs, between local efforts and global goals. It has remained grounded in its founding philosophy: to serve with simplicity, integrity, and impact. The journey from a small Delhi-based initiative to a nationally recognized and globally connected organization is a testament to what collective vision, grassroots action, and unwavering belief in equity can achieve. And this journey continues; with more voices, more challenges, and an even stronger resolve to build a better tomorrow.
